Arrival in Kathmandu-Nepal.
Rest day in Kathmandu. Time for sightseeing, getting our trekking permits and last minute buying of materials and food for the trekking.
Flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and transfer by car to Chichira (1,980 m).
From Chichira we will hike to Num (1,560 m). The first part of the trail winds up along hills, through rice paddies and villages, following the course of the river Arun.
From Num to Seduwa (1,500 m), where the entrance of Makalu Barun National Park is.
From Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,100 m). In this stage the trails become steeper and less visited, crops are more difficult to grow and the architecture changes radically. At Tashigaon the wooden houses are placed on pillars that look like mushrooms and are very similar to Walser’s raccards. It is true that, in the mountains, similar problems lead to similar solutions!
From Tashigaon to Kongma Danda (3,500 m).
Rest day for acclimatization.
Trekking from Kongma Danda to Dobate (2,415 m), which leads us to go beyond the Shipton (4,200 m) pass and enter the Barun Valley. This valley leads directly to the base camp of Makalu. In this area, there are no villages, only pastures for the yaks. The vegetation is sparse and the air thin.
From Dobate to Yangri Karka (3,557 m).
From Yangri Karka to Langmale Karka (4,410 m).
Arrival at Makalu’s base camp (4,870 m). We will take time to explore the surroundings.
Having reached the Makalu’s base camp, it’s time to start our hike back and we head to Yangri Karka.
