The expedition on Shishapangma will take us to the smallest of the great mountains. With its 8,027 m, it is the lowest of the 14 eight-thousanders.
1° DAY
Arrival in Kathmandu-Nepal.
2° DAY
Rest day in Kathmandu. Climbing permit regularization. Purchase of materials and food needed for the expedition.
3° DAY
Transfer from Kathmandu to Nyalam (Tibet) by coach.
4° DAY
Rest day in Nyalam (Tibet) for acclimatization. We can hike in the mountains around the village.
5° DAY
Transfer by coach from Nyalam to the Chinese Base camp of Shishapangma.
6° DAY
Rest day at Chinese base camp. Preparation of loads for the yaks for the next day’s climb to the actual base camp.
7° DAY
Climb to base camp (5,200 m) of Shishapangma. From the Chinese base camp, it takes a whole day’s journey to get to the base camp itself, in a small moraine valley next to the glacier. The altitude rise is 600 m only, but it is difficult to cover it in less than 8 hours.
8° DAY
We will set up the base camp and get the equipment ready for the next camp. The setting is spectacular, the light is grazing and the air is brisk and thin.
You can often see hares hiding behind a rock or a snowcock (a kind of large Partridge) crossing the trail pouncing quickly.
9°-30° DAY
Acclimatization, transport of equipment, setting up of camps and bids to climb to the summit. The next step is setting up Camp 1 at 6,500 m, crossing an area of “ice sails” and following the ice strip until a basin.
Then it’s the turn of Camp 2, at 7,200 .
The constant ups and downs, alternating nights at high altitude and at base camp will hone our acclimatization. When we are ready we will leave Camp 2 to tackle the steep slope that ends at the big gendarme, then the beautiful and easy snowy ridge leading to the first peak.
The snow conditions on the next ridge aerial and technical, which leads to the true summit of Shishapangma, will determine whether to continue or settle for the breathtaking panorama before us.
The entire Tibet stretches under our gaze, dotted with thousands of deep blue lakes.
31° DAY
Descent from the base camp to the Chinese base camp of China.
32° DAY
Transfer from Chinese base camp to Zangmu by coach.
33° DAY
Transfer from Kangmu to Kathmandu by coach.
34° DAY
