An extraordinary route in a fascinating high-mountain environment. Though not difficult, the ridge is long and requires attention, especially during the descent from the peak and when climbing the Zumsteinspitze.

We set out around 3 am. An easy glacier trek takes us to the Lysjoch pass (4,250 m). We descend the Grenzgletscher until we’re under the visible ridge that leads to the peak. We traverse the ridge’s edge , initially on snow mixed with rock then entirely on rock, until we reach the summit (4,634 m). From the top we’ll enjoy a striking panorama of the whole Alpine region, including the four-thousanders of the Bernese Oberland.
We’ll descend via the jagged normal route.
Airy and highly spectacular, it affords a fabulous bird’s-eye view of Monte Rosa’s imposing east face.
The final, tricky section leads us to the Zumsteinspitze (4,563 ), where we find the comfortable track that heads to the Margherita Hut; then we descend towards the cable car station on Indren Glacier.
