PROGRAM
The south face of Mont Blanc: an exclusive and majestic scenery. Well known worldwide as a testing ground even for expert mountaineers. Impressive pillars of granite, tormented glaciers and open-air ridges, so sharp to appear inviolable. A 2-day tour, for those who want to get closer to this wild environment without being an experienced climber; we propose a fascinating itinerary among via ferratas and easy climbing routes that link Monzino hut to Borelli refuge. Thanks to the accommodation in the huts we offer a beautiful experience, with a mountaineering touch, suitable for small groups (of 2-3 participants).
GROUP DEPARTURES
Monzino hut
elevation gain: 930m
ascent descent time: 4/5h
Meeting with the Guide at the parking area in Freney village, in Veny Valley.
We start on the path leading to Marmotte lake. Following for the Miage moraine. A little further, at a large boulder, begin the yellow stamps leading to the visible canal west of the Aiguille du Châtelet. From this point start the cables of the Luigi Glarey via ferrata, which will be the signpost for the first part of the climb. Once out of the canal, we will walk along the grassy slope that flanks the Aiguille du Châtelet (yellow stamps), up to the foot of the Brouillard moraine. The trail leads up to the base of the glacier. With the necessary precautions, you can enter the first flat part, even without the use of crampons. After the visit to the glacier, we return to the shoulder of the Châtelet. From here to the comfortable path that leads to Monzino hut, passing by what remains of the historic Capanna Gamba.
Dinner and overnight at the hut.
If you are trained enough, you can combine your stay at Monzino hut with a visit to the tip of the Châtelet, from which you can enjoy an incomparable view. The route is equipped with cables.

Traverse towards Borelli refuge, passing by Col Chasseur
elevation gain: 300m
elevation loss: 1,240m
ascent-descent time: 6/8h
Wake up and breakfast at Monzino hut. Start by going down the first two stretches of via ferrata of the normal path of access to Rifugio Monzino. At the height of the Freney Glacier tongue, we cross a plateau towards Mont Rouge du Peuterey. Going up at a large couloir, we meet the cables of the Peuterey ferrata, towards Col Chasseur. From the pass you go up another fifty meters towards Mont Rouge. We will then easily reach the first and second “Platta de Zaneno”. These are two comfortable flat belvederes with breathtaking views of the Aiguille Noire, the Rocher Gruber, the Piloni del Freney and the entire Val Veny. At the end of the well-deserved refreshment break, we will descend to Col Chasseur. From here, taking the path equipped with metal cable, in a short time we will reach the Fauteuil des Allemands and then the Borelli refuge. The break at the refuge, which usually hosts those tempting their ascent to Cresta della Noire and the Integrale di Peuterey, is highly recommended. To return to the valley, you have to go down the stretch of via ferrata of the path that connects the Peuterey Forest to Borelli. Once reached the bottom of the valley, a comfortable path leads you back to the car park of Freney, where you close this magnificent loop at the foot of the most severe peaks of the Alps.
