THE PROGRAM:

The Gran Paradiso ski ascent is one of the most beautiful and classic ski mountaineering climbs in the Alps.
Located in the heart of Italy’s first National Park, this route offers breathtaking scenery, glaciers, and the thrill of a true high-altitude experience.
Accompanied by IFMGA-certified Mountain Guides, you’ll enjoy two unforgettable days surrounded by silence, snow, and nature.

The Gran Paradiso ski tour takes you to the only 4,000-meter peak entirely within Italian territory.
Starting from Valsavarenche, you’ll spend the night at the Chabod Hut or the Vittorio Emanuele II Hut, two cozy and welcoming alpine refuges.
On the first day, you’ll ascend about 800 meters of elevation through beautiful forest and glacier landscapes.
The second day includes the summit push, gaining around 1,300 meters to reach the 4,061-meter peak.

From the summit, the view stretches across the entire Alpine arc, from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn, a panorama that rewards every effort.
This Gran Paradiso ski ascent is suitable for intermediate ski mountaineers with good fitness and basic glacier experience.
With the support of our professional guides, you’ll climb safely and enjoy an incredible descent on perfect alpine snow.

Gran Paradiso ski ascent ASCENT DAY BY DAY

Difference in altitude: 815 m
Ascent time: 2 hours
Meeting point: Pont Valsavarenche parking area, close to Hotel Gran Paradiso, for equipment check and a short briefing with the Guide

From the Pont Valsavarenche parking lot (1,960 m), we follow the path in the Woods that crosses the Savare torrent and make our way into the valley. On the left, we take the steep trail that winds up the mountain and leads to the Vittorio Emanuele II Hut.

We exit the woods and travel east across the vast moraine hummocks, beyond which we enjoy a view onto the north faces of the Ciarforon (3,642 m) and the Becca di Monciair (3,544 m). A few more steps, and we’ll be at the Vittorio Emanuele II Hut (2,775 m).

Difference in altitude: 1,300 m
Ascent/Descent time: 10-11 hours

The normal route from the Vittorio Emanuele II Hut (2,735 m) begins on a moraine of large stone blocks, then turns into a narrow valley framed by lateral moraines, and finally heads up an evenly-sloped glacier. At the distinctive “Schiena d’Asino” (Donkey’s Back) we take a short break, then ascend the col of the Becca di Moncorvé and continue towards the bergschrund. A brief but demanding final ridge is all that separates us from the statue-clad summit.

The ascent from the Federico Chabod Hut (2.750 m) begins on the moraine then continues up across the Laveciau Glacier. When it reaches the Schiena d’Asino, this route joins the one from the Vittorio Emanuele II Hut. The descent is via the same route.
