  • the assistance of a UIAGM/IFMGA certified Mountain Guide

  • research and rescue insurance with UVGAM coverage (recommended): €5 per person for 3 days
  • the hiring of any personal equipment (harness, ice axe, crampons and helmet): €30/day per person while supplies last

Aiguille du Midi – Arête des Cosmiques ASCENT DAY BY DAY

Difference in altitude: 250 m
Ascent/descent time: 4-5 hours
Meeting point: meeting at 8:30 am at the Aiguille du Midi (Chamonix, FR) terminus for equipment check and a short briefing.

With the cableway, we reach the Aiguille du Midi. Here we put on the crampons and go down on the glacier below on a short and snowy ridge. When we reach the glacier, an easy hike will take us to the Refuge des Cosmiques. Here begins the actual climb, mostly rocky with some nice passing in the snow.
The rock is of excellent quality and climbing passages are III degree on average, but the route has even a V passing and a rappelling descent that make this climb complete and fascinating.
This route has the peculiarity of not having a descent, as the end of the ridge is not far from the arrival of the cable car that takes back to Chamonix.
