THE PROGRAM:

Aiguille d’Entrèves is located between the Aiguille du Toule and the Tour Ronde, on the ridge that borders the Géant Glacier from the South. This route is on the North-East ridge. It offers a nice mixed ascent, quite constant, with moderate mountaineering difficulties and a few (not overly exposed) climbing sections. The landscape is one of the most picturesque of the area. During the trip, you could admire some of the peaks of the Mont Blanc massif that made the history of mountaineering. With the Skyway cable car providing easy access, the climb can be completed in one day: that is why the approach trail is usually fairly visible and the route quite popular.

Aiguille d’Entrèves ASCENT DAY BY DAY

Difference in altitude: 275 m
Ascent/descent time: 4-6 hours
Meeting point: meeting at 8:00 am at the Skyway cable car station for equipment control and a short briefing.

We’ll take the SkyWay cable car from Courmayeur to Pointe Helbronner. After putting on our crampons, we’ll set out on Géant Glacier towards Col Flambeaux, where we’ll descend for a few hundred metres, before starting to climb to the Col d’Entrèves (3,517 m). Here, we take off the crampons and start climbing the ridge, which becomes more and more technical and sharper, until we reach the summit (3,604 m).

We continue along the airy ridge, which becomes easier and less challenging until we reach the glacier. We put the crampons back on and head down to the plateau and then up again to Col Flambeaux. Then, we’ll reach the Torino Hut for a brief but pleasant break, before heading down by cable car.
