THE PROGRAM:

The Brouillard Ridge is one of the ridges leading up to the very peak of Mont Blanc. Together with the Peuterey Ridge, it is the longest. Usually, only the highest section, starting at the Col Emile Rey, is tackled, with climbers overnighting at the Monzino Hut or the Eccles Bivouac. It is considered an all-time classic in every respect.
The full-length route – the entire ridge – actually begins much further below. The buttresses from where the Brouillard ridge arises start just behind the glacial Miage Lake. The route stretches for more than 7 km through one of the wildest corners of the Alps, taking in four four-thousand-metre peaks along the way and clocking up 3,300 m of drop heigth.

Brouillard Ridge ASCENT DAY BY DAY

Difference in altitude: 1,800 m
Ascent time: 8-10 hours
Meeting point: SkyWay cable car parking area for equipment check and a short briefing. Short transfer by car to the Veny Valley.

From the Plan Veny (1,560 m) we will be following the path for Lago delle Marmotte, before reaching the Miage Glacier. A steep-sided ridge then leads us to the Aiguilles Rouges. A sequence of UIAA grade II and III sections will then lead us, over needles of rock, along the long ridge as far as the Col du Brouillard (3,281 m), where it is possible to make camp for the night.

Difference in altitude: 1,800 m
Descent gain: 2,500 m
Ascent/descent time: 8-10 hours

In the morning, we will be following the ridge as far as Punta Baretti (4,006 m) then continue, over manageable rock and snow to the narrow peak of Mont Brouillard (4,069 m). We will descend towards the Col Emile Rey until we reach a tricky vertical gully. An easier stretch over the rocks will bring us to Picco Luigi Amedeo (4,470 m). Thereafter, the ridge climbs to the summit of Mont Blanc de Courmayeur (4,748 m), the crest becoming more exposed as we progress. From here, the final stretch to the summit of Mont Blanc (4,810 m) is straightforward.
We will make our way down the Goûter side.

A stopover at the Goûter Hut for the second night is a good option, with the final descent made the following day.
