Glacier rescue techniques


This course will teach you the most effective glacier rescue techniques, to increase your confidence when travelling on a glacier.

PROGRAM

We will cover the following topics:

  • practical demonstrations of how to build different haul systems for a crevasse rescue
  • demonstration and construction of snow anchors
  • practical demonstration of an arrested fall
  • practical test on building a haul system
DAY

Meeting point: meeting at 8:30 at the Skyway terminus for equipment check and a short briefing.

We will take the cable car to Punta Helbronner (3,466 m). Once on the glacier, we will find a place suitable for teaching, testing holds and practising crevasse rescue.

Note: In spring, we will use mountaineering equipment during the course.

RATES

520 € fee per person with 1 participant
320 € fee per person with 2 participants
260 € fee per person with 3 participants
210 € fee per person with 4 participants
190 € fee per person with 5 participants
190 € fee per person with 6 participants
The rate includes
  • the assistance of a UIAGM/IFMGA certified Mountain Guide
  • liability insurance
  • safety gear used by the Guide (eg rope)
  • tickets for lift facilities
  • booking assistance service (including assistance for refuges and lifts reservation)
  • the Mountain Guide’s expenses (lifts, transfers and meals)

The rate does not include
  • research and rescue insurance with UVGAM coverage (recommended): €5 per person for 3 days
  • the hiring of any personal equipment (harness, ice axe, crampons and helmet): €30/day per person while supplies last
  • transfer to/from the meeting point
  • anything that is not mentioned under "The rate includes"

  • Fees for lift facilities, transfers and mountain lodges are subject to changes established and applied by the respective owners without any liability attributable to PEAKSHUNTER Mountain Guides.
